From “Infest” to ingest: Watch Papa Roach chow down on bugs in new video

Gabriel Olsen/Getty ImagesPapa Roach has long been associated with bugs: their breakthrough album is titled Infest and features a song called “Between Angels and Insects,” and the cover features a giant roach on it.  Apparently, though, the members of Papa Roach have never tried to eat insects. Until now, that is.

In a video for foodie website First We Feast, all four members of Papa Roach willingly eat a variety of cooked insects, including honey-roasted crickets, fire brimstone-flavored mealworms and even an armored-tail scorpion. For the most part, everyone is able to hold everything down, though frontman Jacoby Shaddix had to spit up a bamboo worm.

At the end of the video, Shaddix and company were presented with two dishes: one cooked with insects, and one without. When asked to guess which one was the infested dish, three out of the four Papa Roach members guessed correctly.

Papa Roach has been in the news lately, and not just for eating insects. Over the weekend, a social media post went viral that joked that a depressed House Speaker Paul Ryan listened to the band’s signature hit “Last Resort” after the GOP’s healthcare bill failed.

In response, Papa Roach wrote, “When we feel defeated, we listen to Paul Ryan.” On a more sincere note, the band also added, “But seriously Last Resort was written about suicide, if anyone is feeling defeated get help at [the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline].”

Meanwhile, Papa Roach’s new album Crooked Teeth will be released May 19.
