Tom DeLonge is taking his passion for fringes of science to the next level. He’s launching To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science, a program that brings together the fields of science, aerospace and entertainment.
According to a press release, the purpose of To the Stars Academy is to give “researchers the freedom to explore exotic science and technologies with the infrastructure and resources to rapidly transition innovative ideas into world-changing products and services.”
“The public interest in the outer edges of science and the understanding of phenomena has always been suffocated by mainstream ideology and bureaucratic constraint,” says DeLonge in a statement.
He adds, “We believe there are discoveries within our reach that will revolutionize the human experience, but they can only be accomplished through the unrestricted support of breakthrough research and innovation.”
The former Blink-182 guitarist co-founded To the Stars Academy with James Semivan, a consultant to the U.S. government on national security matters. Other members of the team have worked with the Department of Defense and CIA.
