Report: Five Finger Death Punch sues record label to be released from contract

Stephen J. Cohen/Getty ImagesFive Finger Death Punch have reportedly taken legal action against their record label, Prospect Park. According to TMZ, the band has filed a lawsuit asking a judge to release them from their contract with the label.

You may recall that last year, Prospect Park sued Five Finger Death Punch for not recording a fourth album with the label, as well as a greatest hits collection, as stipulated by their contract. The label accused the band of rushing through the recording process in violation of the contract, which required they wait nine months to begin recording a new album, in an effort to “cash in before the anticipated downfall of their addicted bandmate,” referring to lead singer Ivan Moody.

At the time, FFDP called Prospect Park’s lawsuit “the latest in a long line of exploitative and abusive bullying tactics.”

In this new lawsuit, FFDP reportedly accuses Prospect Park of being a “sinking ship” that is preventing the band from leaving the company while it’s also attempting to sell the label. In turn, Prospect Park tells TMZ their only goal is for Five Finger to record the album “required under the recording contract and expected by their fans.”

In addition to being freed from their contract with Prospect Park, Five Finger Death Punch is also reportedly seeking $1 million in damages.

Last May, Five Finger Death Punch announced they’d be signing with Rise Records following the completion of their contract with Prospect Park.
