Sublime brewing up craft beer and film projects

Noel Vasquez/Getty ImagesJune marks the 25th anniversary of Sublime’s debut album, and the band’s surviving members are staging a sudsy celebration.

According to Rolling Stone, bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh have signed off on a limited edition Mexican-style lager beer named after that album: 40oz. to Freedom. The brew will be bottled in 40-ounce containers and sold locally by San Diego-based AleSmith Brewing Company before being rolled out nationally.

Troy Holmes, widow of Sublime’s late frontman, Bradley Nowell, is also on board, commenting, “Being a beer lover…I know Sublime fans will absolutely love it!”

The Sublime team also has two film projects in the works. The first is an authorized documentary designed to tell the “real” story of the ska-punk trio that exploded out of Long Beach, California. Also in the pipeline is a dramatic biopic about the group.

On a more musical note, Sublime plans to reissue the band’s 1995 EP, Badfish, on vinyl for the first time for Record Story Day on April 22.

Last summer, Sublime issued Van Box Set, a comprehensive 13-disc vinyl collection featuring the band’s three studio albums, a compilation album, two live discs and the 1991 cassette release, Jah Won’t Pay the Bills.
