Mastodon pokes fun at Death in “Show Yourself” video; books “Kimmel” appearance

Credit: Travis ShinnMastodon has premiered a goofy new video for their song “Show Yourself,” the lead single from their forthcoming album, Emperor of Sand. You can watch the video now on YouTube.

In the clip, the Grim Reaper is having a tough time with his job with the Department of Death — a Glengarry Glen Ross-style office environment with a boss that’s always preaching the “ABKs” — “always be killing.” He’s assigned to kill the members of Mastodon, but when he fails, he’s fired from his job and his disappointed wife leaves him. Later, a depressed Death ends up accidentally killing the band when he tosses a banana peel onto the road, causing their van to flip over and earning him his job and his wife back.

The light tone of the “Show Yourself” video contrasts with the darkness of Emperor of Sand, a concept album about suffering from cancer.

In other Mastodon news, the band will perform on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on April 3.

Emperor of Sand, Mastodon’s seventh studio album, will be released March 31.
